Choosing a photo booth backdrop that suits your venue

Sequins, greenery, drapery or a plain wall? How to pick a photo booth backdrop that flatters guests and fits your venue.

Every photo from the booth has the same thing behind your guests: the backdrop. A good one makes people look great and ties the photos to your event. A bad one is distracting in every frame.

Why the booth faces a backdrop

A photo booth works best aimed at a backdrop set up in a corner or against a wall, with guests posing in between. Pointed into an open room, the photos fill up with tables, exit signs and people walking by. A backdrop keeps the background clean and consistent.

Match the venue

  • Barns and farms: greenery walls, white flowers or ivory drapery feel natural against wood.
  • Ballrooms and historic estates: champagne or ivory sequins, or soft drapery, match the formality.
  • Modern spaces and lofts: evergreen garland with string lights, or a simple neutral backdrop, works well with brick and concrete.
  • Restaurants and private rooms: a balloon garland over a plain backdrop fits a small corner.

Think about color and skin tones

Neutral, warm backdrops (ivory, champagne, soft greenery) flatter almost everyone. Very bright colors can cast onto faces, and busy patterns compete with the people in the photo.

Coordinate with your strip design

The backdrop and the design at the bottom of each strip should feel like they belong together. If your backdrop is greenery, a strip with sage and cream tones will tie it together.

Leave room

Plan for the backdrop and the booth to be about 7 feet apart, with space for a group to stand in between and for a short line to form nearby.
